Bird House for Wild Birds
You can build bird house with very basic materials, like pine for instance, which is easy to work with.
Remember to cut a small holes in the bottom for drainage, in case of rain or storm. Using thick wood can help keep cool in summer, and warm in winter. Add a slot near the roofline for ventilation .
The size of the opening is important. Make the hole slightly bigger than the size of the bird your would like to attract. Make the hole too big, and you may attract the birds that you do not wish for!
Do not make the perch too close to the entrance as it may invite predators, which may do harm to your smaller bird tenants. It is not a good idea to paint or stain your bird houses, especially the inside, as most paints are toxic for the birds.
The Java Finch are very handsome birds, they look like they are wearing well-pressed tux all the time. I call them 'Tuxedo Birds' sometimes.
